Introduction

Software development progressed after iOS and Android applications came into being. Software Testing is currently being recognized as an important arm of software development. Thanks to the fourth digital revolution. With every little thing revolving around the tips of our fingers, we are now exposed to different types of software. With the growing challenges comes the need for an expert who can test the software and ensure that things are running seamlessly before it reaches an end-user. Let us go back to the basics and understand the fundamentals of software testing.

What is software testing?

Software testing is a method by which we validate and ensure that the developed software/application is bug free, and does not display any runtime error while working in real-time capacity. A software testing expert ensures that the software/application runs seamlessly in the capacity that it was designed to function.

Why is software testing essential?

What if Mark Zuckerberg had launched Facebook, before it was tested? The consequences could have been disastrous leaving end-users high and dry, and hackers could have gained access and used the data as a gold mine to rob users of data and identity. But testing the software and application got Facebook up and running without bugs or error and Facebook started to turn profitable. Profits apart, if we had to put things in a nutshell to understand why software testing is essential, we will learn that a thoroughly tested software product is reliable, secure, and delivers high performance. Of course, this goes on to save time and is cost effective as well.

Have there been any data-breaches in the recent times that underline the importance of a Software Testing Professional?

ccording to reports there have been quite a few data breaches in the recent times. These breaches have impacted the lives of the common man, laying emphasis on the fact that in the present times, the industry is facing a shortage of Professional Software Testing Experts. With the growing number of software and applications, the skill gap needs to be addressed at the earliest to combat some of the well-known breaches owing to a software testing failure:

On the 25th of September 2018, a data breach had been identified at Facebook, confirming that nearly 50 million accounts had been risked. Bugs were fixed later after testing the site.

An outage that took place on Amazon’s Cloud Hosting Service, which is supposed to be the most reliable service, negatively impacted companies like Netflix, Slack, Business Insider, Quora, and other well-known brands. These applications heavily rely on AWS services to store and execute their data.

A data breach can hamper the brand image, detrimentally and also negatively impact the brand financially. Software Testing comes to the rescue here.

Is software testing a lucrative profession? Why opt for the profession?

Data is the mainstay of everything that is going on around us today, and software/ applications and data share a hand-in-glove relationship. With so many new products and services that we encounter on a daily basis, the role of a software tester, is never going to go out of demand. It is a lucrative profession that is here to stay. Professionals are offered an interesting pay that according to the national Indian average, amounts to the sum average of, ?4.2 lakhs per annum. The amount will vary on the basis of experience. We cannot overlook the fact that software testing is a vanilla skill. Going further everything will be run by software and through management of data. It’s the best time to get into the field.
